The INNOAIR project aims to improve the air quality in the capital through innovative, technological solutions and engagement of the society in the cause. The biggest innovation of the project is the introduction of on-demand green public transport for the first time in Europe.

The transport will operate on a route determined by the demand of the users, it will serve as a leading to rail transport (metro or tram) and will operate in the southwestern districts of Sofia.

"According to 99% of the scientists, climate change is a direct result of human activity over the past 100 years. That is why it was very important for me not just to observe from the side, but to lead this project, so that through actions we can show the commitment of Sofia Municipality to the problem and the responsibility we hold," said during the opening the project manager of INNOAIR and Deputy Mayor of Transport and Urban Mobility department, Sofia Municipality - Kristian Krastev.

The project consortium includes 8 partners from local government, academia, business and civil society in the person of Sofia Municipality, Sofia University, Plovdiv University, Sofia Development Association, Sofia Urban Mobility Centre, National Association of Municipalities in Republic of Bulgaria, Modeshift Europe and National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology. Representatives of each organization took part in the event and told in detail about their work on the project.

Attendees of the event got acquainted with the activities of each of the partners. The audience was intrigued mainly by the software for analysis and optimization of transport schemes, developed by Sofia Municipality, as well as the application SofiaCoin (available for iOS and Android), which encourages active movement by rewarding users. Also of interest were the engaging events with civic participation organized by the Sofia Development Association and NAMRB, the platform through which the on-demand green public transport will operate, developed by Modeshift Europe, as well as some developments and analyzes of Sofia and Plovdiv Universities and NIMH.
