Sustainable urban mobility plans can completely change the quality of life in cities. The European Union aims to reduce the harmful emissions by 55 percent by 2030, and the measures for sustainable public transport and parking are crucial.

This was the main topic of the PARK4SUMP event, organized by the Sofia Urban Mobility Centre (SUMC), and the reason for INNOAIR to find a place in the program.

The participants in the conference were welcomed by the Executive Director of Sofia Urban Mobility Centre Dimitar Dilchev, who shared with them the challenges of the transport and parking system during COVID. "In this difficult situation for all, the possibilities of public transport and the need for sustainable policies, both for public transport and for parking, have become clear", he said. The event was held on 15th and 16th of June 2022.

“A recent study showed that a huge percentage of the population in Sofia Municipality lives up to 12 minutes from a public transport stop, which shows high intensity", said Metodi Avramov, Sofia Urban Mobility Centre's Director of Strategies, Innovation and International Projects in presenting the policies of Sofia Municipality. He reminded that by 2025 the metro lines are planned to be 65 km, which will take half of the ground transport passengers. Avramov acquainted the attendees with the work of the new ticket system, as well as with the project INNOAIR, in which SUMC is a partner.

The main innovation of the INNOAIR project is on demand green public transport, but all other measures in the framework of the project are also towards sustainable ways of transportation and improving air quality.
